Annual Conference
2007 Canadian Cartographic Association
May 26 - June 2, 2007
UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN
SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA
The Canadian Cartographic Association will be meeting in conjunction with Congress 2007, being hosted at the University of Saskatchewan.
The University of Saskatchewan is delighted to be hosting, in co-operation with the Canadian Federation of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Canada's pre-eminent academic conference and the largest conference ever held in Saskatoon.
Hosting this major national event is an honor and a rare opportunity for any university. We last hosted this congress in 1979. We also welcomed Congress scholars to our campus back in 1959. We are especially pleased to be hosting Congress in 2007 – the centenary of the University of Saskatchewan – and we will be making Congress the centerpiece of our centennial celebrations.
The Congress 2007 theme is “Bridging Communities: Making public knowledge – Making knowledge public.” Scholarly and public communities are becoming increasingly connected. All are navigating the complexities of globalization, genetic innovation, medical advances, digital culture, national identities. Our hope is that this Congress will shed light on the roles, responsibilities and intentions of humanists and social scientists in the evolving relationship between the academy and the public.
Within this over-arching theme and through various academic and cultural events on campus, Congress 2007 will place special emphasis on women, equity issues, Saskatchewan's Aboriginal heritage, and partnerships with Aboriginal Peoples.
I look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful campus in the summer of 2007 and invite you to explore our dynamic city with its museums, art galleries, riverside trail system, and unique tour opportunities including Wanuskewin Heritage Park and the Canadian Light Source synchrotron.
Congress is a celebration of scholarly excellence across Canada. Come and help celebrate as well the University of Saskatchewan's 100-year proud history.
