Employers

The federal, provincial and local government is one of the major employers. Job announcements can be found on the Internet or at the local government offices. Universities and colleges also employ cartographers. Opportunities arise in the private sector. Software companies and program developers are part of todays job market. Also insurance companies maopping business properties or the loses encountered after a disaster are all part of the emerging job opportunities for students. Planning agencies, marketing or advertising firms are all part of the new trend in hiring cartographers.

With a good education you should be able to find a job.

Professional Associations

Cartographers in Canada are represented by a number of national and regional professional associations:

These associations all publish journals or newsletters. The CCA, for example, produces Cartographica, a quarterly journal/monograph, and Cartouche, a newsletter, while the CISM publishes the CISM Journal. Most also hold an annual conference, or arrange local meetings during the year.
